ORDINANCE NO. 36

AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE OPERATION AND PARKING OF MOTOR VEHICLES ON PRIVATELY OWNED PARKING LOTS AND STREETS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE TOWN OF GRANT, WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA, DOES ORDAIN:

Section I. Definition. Any roadway or parking lot used by the public as a street for public traffic or parking shall be considered "open to the public" for the purposes of this ordinance.

Section II. Maximum Speed. No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any private roadway or parking lot open to the public, within the town, at a speed greater than is safe and reasonable for the conditions of traffic then existing therein, and in no event at a speed in excess of ten (10) miles per hour. Signs shall be posted at the entrances of such roadways which shall designate the speed limit. The signs as erected shall conform in size, shape, and color to the uniform system established by the Commissioner of Highways.

Section III. Careless Driving. No person shall operate or halt any vehicle upon any private roadway or parking lot open to the public, within the town. carelessly or heedlessly in disregard of the rights or the safety of others, or in a manner so as to en danger, or be likely to endanger, any person or property.

Section IV. Parking. Parking of vehicles on such lots shall conform to the markings of stalls or positions for parking designated on the surface of the parking area and no vehicle shall be parked or allowed to stand in any area of such parking lot which has been designated or is used for a lane for moving traffic.

Section V. Notice of Collision. Any person involved in a collision between the vehicle he is driving and any other vehicles parked on a private roadway or parking lot open to the public shall leave a notice upon each unattended vehicle with which he has collided, giving his name, address, and license number.

Section VI. Violation and Penalty. Any person violating this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $300 or by imprisonment not to exceed 90 days, or both.

Section VII. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption and publication according to law.
